Green Highland Renewables acquires second hydro site from SSE

Landmark deal underlines Perth firm’s reputation for delivering schemes across Scotland

Eight hydro projects now under construction

21st July 2014

Green Highland Renewables has just expanded its growing development portfolio with the purchase of a second hydro site from SSE. The 2MW scheme will be built on land owned and managed by Forestry Commission Scotland at Allt Coire Chaorach in Glen Dochart approximately 30 miles west of Perth.

The landmark deal follows Green Highland Renewables’ purchase of the 2MW Allt a’ Chonais scheme near Achnasheen from SSE in October 2013, which is on track to be commissioned later this year.

The site at Allt Coire Chaorach is a high-head, run of river scheme which will generate 2MW of renewable energy for export into the electricity distribution network.  Construction on the Allt Coire Chaorach project, which has full planning consent, will begin this year and aims to be generating electricity in spring 2016.

“This is another landmark deal for Green Highland Renewables and underlines our reputation for delivering quality hydro schemes across Scotland,” says Ian Cartwright, Managing Director at Green Highland Renewables.

“We agreed with SSE that the Allt Coire Chaorach project plays to our strengths and fits our core strategy to expand our portfolio of schemes.

“We’ve now completed seven projects, have eight under construction and have a 100 per cent track record in securing consents, with 45 projects approved to date.

“We are still hungry for new sites and are actively seeking opportunities to grow our development portfolio in order to deliver more schemes across Scotland,” Cartwright concludes.
